We asked Emma, EHN’s outreach coordinator and co-producer of our companion podcast, Ecotones Now, about her environment this month.
Habitat
I’ve been back and forth between my home in Washington, DC and my research sites in New England this month. The variable weather this autumn due to climate change, combined with my traveling between different ecologies, has given me a bit of whiplash!
Digging
I’ve loved reading and thinking with Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey this month, and also devoured Fourth Wing and Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros. As the days get shorter, I’ve also loved lighting candles during my dissertation writing sessions.
Buds
I’m looking forward to celebrating the holidays next month in alignment with my own family traditions, including baking German Christmas Stollen. I’m also practicing having my dog walk in his tiny snow boots, which is exciting for me but not for him!
Finally, a programming note
You might have noticed in the last couple of months that we have been publishing at a slightly slower pace than before. One of the reasons for this is that EHN is gearing up for some major changes!
Starting in January 2024, Genie Yoo will replace Elizabeth Hameeteman as EHN’s executive editor. Elizabeth has decided to step away for personal reasons. As a part of this process, we have been working to restructure EHN. We feel that this is a great opportunity to make sure EHN operates in a way that is durable and feasible in the long term, without too much reliance on any one individual’s personal involvement. We will share more with you soon. Stay tuned!
